you win some you lose some

we are all blessed with talents and I believe that we can develop many here on earth with hard work and determination.
there are many things that I am good at, but there is one thing that I just can't seem to get the hang of. all the tutorials and instructions i refer to seem so simple and easy. i try to follow all the tips that i pick up along the way, but so far my talent in cake decorating just isn't blooming. in fact i'm downright frustrated every time i get the frosting in my hands. it just doesn't obey. so here's my latest cakewreck (if you haven't seen cakewrecks.com, definitely check it out for some great laughs. this is one of my favorites http://www.cakewrecks.com/2009/09/creepy-crawly-cakes.html). i refuse to give up and just hope my family is patient with me and my disasters (plus a little cussing, screaming, tears and a whole lot of laughs).
This cake is for my mom, she loves the seattle seahawks. i probably should say ADORES,this NFL team. she is forever loyal to them and has their emblem on everything she owns (I think there are about 5 of them just in her car alone). So I thought she would love a cake dedicated to them as well (I'm surprised we haven't thought of that before.) The idea came from a cupcake cookbook and was pretty simple, just a cake made from several tiers of cupcakes. I had the perfect colors and a great topper. Even the candles were perfect. I thought, "how hard could it be to stack cupcakes?" Well, I'll tell you. It's hard! The darn things just refused to line up and stack up evenly no matter how I arranged them. Only the bottom layer lay flat and by the time we lit the candles they were almost dripping off the sloping cupcakes.

but it did taste pretty good

and just to make myself feel better again, i had to post the pics of the boys in their new sweaters. i finally finished these a few days ago and ian has been wearing his ever since (yes even to bed, hence the pajamas in the picture).

i borrowed a sweater from my mom that my grandma june crocheted for my brother when he was 5. he loved this sweater and my boys adore theirs just as much. so even if i can't make a beautiful cake, at least i can crochet. maybe i'll have to crochet an amigurumi cake. cute, cute.
